INDIANAPOLIS — A couple from Indianapolis have been convicted for the death of a child back in 2020.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday that Derrick Dale and the child’s mother, Kimberly Grosklos, both face charges in the death of an 8-year-old girl who died on April 6th, 2020.

Investigators say the girl was beaten and manually strangled for weeks leading up to her death. The couple used random objects to beat the girl, including jumper cables. Autopsy results show the cause of death was mixed modality trauma, which includes but is not limited to multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Investigators say all traumatic injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma – simply put, it was child abuse.

Derrick Dale has been convicted of Aggravated Battery Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony), Neglect of a Dependent resulting in a Death (Level 1 Felony) and Battery resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to a Person Less than 14-years-old (Level 3 Felony). Dale will be sentenced on July 8th.

Grosklos, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death (Level 1 Felony).

“The abuse this child sustained is horrific and has no place in our society,” Prosecutor Mears stated. “While this resolution brings justice for the victim, we understand that her siblings need our continued focus and support, as they navigate this tragic adversity at such young ages.”
