FRANKLIN, Ind. – Law enforcement in Johnson County responded Tuesday morning to a crash involving a semi-trailer and multiple vehicles.

Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess says the wreck happened in the Northbound lanes of State Road 37 at Smith Valley Road. That’s on the northwest side of the county.

Burgess says the semi-truck driver was headed northbound when he got distracted by something in his truck. The driver said he did not notice the cars in front of him had slowed down for the traffic light. When he looked back at the road he didn’t have much time to react, says Burgess, and he hit the cars in front of him.

Four people have been taken to the hospital and one person was listed in serious condition Tuesday morning. Burgess confirmed Tuesday afternoon that none of the injuries are life threatening.

The northbound lanes of State Road 37 from State Road 144 to Smith Valley Road were closed for most of the morning while cleanup crews were on the scene.
