MADISON COUNTY, Ind. – An Indianapolis man was arrested Thursday afternoon for impaired driving after crashing his car on I-69 in Madison County.

Troopers responded to a crash near mile marker 218 in the southbound lanes of I-69 around 2:42 p.m.  They found a black 2018 Nissan driven by Michael Scott, 31, of Indianapolis. Officers said they detected signs of impairment and could smell alcohol coming from Scott at the scene. He was taken to a hospital to submit a chemical test. Results of the test are pending.

A preliminary investigation of the crash determined Scott was driving southbound on I-69, when he left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck the median barrier twice before coming to rest.

There was a front seat passenger in the car identified as Andrew Singletary Jr., 18, of Indianapolis. He was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Police say evidence shows Singletary was not wearing a seatbelt. There was also a minor in the back seat who was wearing a seatbelt and they were not injured.

Scott was arrested and is currently being held at the Madison County Jail. He’s being charged with operating while intoxicated with a passenger under 18.
