INDIANAPOLIS – Mark Glowinski is often referred to as the “5th best starter” on the Colts offensive line.
While that might be true, Glowinski has also been the most durable starting offensive lineman since the Colts settled on a 5-man group of LT-Anthony Castonzo, LG-Quenton Nelson, C-Ryan Kelly, RG-Mark Glowinski, RT-Braden Smith in October 2018.
While all of those other guys have battled various injuries over the years, Glowinski has not missed a single game due to injury in that span.
Still though, the question is fair to be asked if the Colts are getting proper return on a Glowinski cap hit at $7.5 million last season?
It isn’t Glowinski’s fault, but the Colts have to sit down and decide whether they are taking the right offensive line approach with their financials.
Consider that Glowinski’s cap hit was higher than any of the 10 starting offensive linemen in this year’s Super Bowl, a change in approach might be needed.
Entering free agency, the Colts would appear to have a two-man decision to make in moving forward at right guard.
Re-sign Glowinski (29 years old) or go with the cheaper Chris Reed (29 years old).
In the middle of last season, the Colts actually turned to Reed to start ahead of Glowinski at right guard, rotating the two during a few games.
As the season reached its close though, Glowinski was back to playing every snap at right guard.
Was that a sign that Glowinski had proven to be the far better option than Reed at right guard?
If that’s the case, is Glowinski the guy to be re-signed again?
Or are the Colts realizing that they might need to save some money while paying top dollar at every other spot along the offensive line?
