INDIANAPOLIS — The Capital City continues to inch closer to a record for homicides in a calendar year.

A man was shot and killed along Hovey Street near 32nd and Ralston Sunday morning. He was alive when police officers got there but died on the way to the hospital.

With the man’s death the city is at 232 homicides on the year, says Indy Metro Police Lt. Shane Foley. Indy was at 203 homicides at this point a year ago.

Where the city is far ahead of last year is murders. There have been 213 criminal homicides so far this year, compared to 174 at this time year ago. Overall last year 250 people were killed by another person in Indianapolis, whether it be intentional or otherwise.
