STATEWIDE — Indiana University Health will require all of its 36,000 employees to be vaccinated against coronavirus by Sept. 1.
“Vaccinating team members is a safe and effective way to protect patients and help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in facilities and in the community,” IU Health officials said in a statement. “Requiring vaccinations for healthcare employees is not new or unprecedented.”
The hospital system says the vaccine is required as a “condition of employment.”
IU Health has previously required employees to receive certain vaccines. The flu vaccine has been required for workers since 2012.
IU Health is allowing employees to apply for medical or religious exemptions.
