LOWELL, Ind. — What’s the most marijuana you’ve ever heard about the police finding? This probably tops it.

State police found more than a half-ton of marijuana during a traffic stop Tuesday on I-65 near Lowell. They say they pulled the white van over for a “moving violation.”

“Subsequent investigation, including a canine sniff of the exterior of the vehicle, lead the officers to search the inside of the van,” said Sgt. Glen Fifield. “During that search, troopers discovered 38 large boxes and 6 black garbage bags.”

The boxes and bags were stuffed full of marijuana. In all the contents weight 1,275 pounds, said Fifield.

“A conservative estimated street value of the seized items is approximately $5.7 million to 8.5 million,” Fifield added.

Christopher Colburn, 31, of McKinneyville, California was arrested when the drugs were discovered in the back of the van. He’s preliminarily charged with Level 5 dealing and possession of marijuana.
