INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been arrested after police say he led them on a half hour-long chase Sunday, damaging several police cars in the process.

IMPD says they were first notified of a possible intoxicated driver near Clermont late Sunday night. When officers tried to stop the driver — a 31-year-old man wanted on a drunk driving warrant — he sped off.

K-9 officers later tracked the man to a house on the west side of Indianapolis, but police did not have a warrant to go inside, so they waited for him to leave.

When the man finally came out of the house, an officer tried to apprehend him, but he backed his van into an officer’s car and drove off once again, making it onto both I-465 and I-70.

IMPD says the man led them on a chase from the west side into downtown Indianapolis. During the chase, the driver unexpectedly stopped his van five times, purposely backed into police cars and at one point, tried to run over an officer who stepped out of his car.

The chase ended around 12:30 a.m. Monday on Monument Circle, between Market and S. Meridian Street.

The man was arrested for resisting arrest and criminal recklessness, but has not been formally charged. His name has not yet been released.

No one was injured during the chase.
