INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police arrested a man for a fatal June crash on I-465 after an investigation found he was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the accident.
Drew Collins, 37, was arrested Dec. 13 for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence Causing Death.
The crash happened on northbound I-465 just before noon on June 30.
The body of 51-year-old Shawn Patterson, of Indianapolis, was found lying in the road, unresponsive and unconscious.
Police believe Patterson was hit by a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Collins while he was making an adjustment to the load on the back of his pick-up truck.
According to police, Collins went off the road, drove onto the right shoulder, and hit Patterson while he stood at the back of his truck. A semi following the Trailblazer was also collected in the crash but the driver was not hurt.
Collins was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
