INDIANAPOLIS — Six people shot Tuesday evening and overnight in separate shootings across Indianapolis. Two of those people were killed.

Officer Michael Hewitt, public information officer for Indianapolis Metro Police, said the first person was shot a little after 4:00 p.m. at a home along Meridan Street in South Village across the street from Holy Cross and St. Joseph Cemetery.

“A 911 caller stated there was a person down possible deceased inside the residence,” Hewitt said. “When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was pronounced deceased on the scene by IEMS.”

Hewitt said the coroner was the one who said the person was murdered

Just after 9:00 p.m., Hewitt said officers were called to the area of  Waldemere Ave and Washington Street on the west side where he said a man and a woman were shot.

“When officers arrived, they located an adult male and adult female both suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” said Hewitt. “IEMS responded and the adult male was pronounced deceased while being transported to an area hospital. The adult female injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.”

Investigators believe the two were shot while driving near a Walgreen’s at the intersection and they went careening into the store.

Three other people were shot elsewhere. One person was shot along Sherman Drive near 38th Street around 10:30. Another person shot in that same incident, according to Hewitt but they were able to get themselves to the hospital. Both are expected to be okay

Finally, another person is serious at the hospital after being shot in the area of 42nd and Post Road after midnight.
