Long suspected, long denied, but finally confirmed: ‘Bert’ and ‘Ernie’ are gay, gay GAY!

Yes, although they’re puppets and do not even sport genitals, “Sesame Street” characters ‘Bert’ and ‘Ernie’ are more than just roommates and best friends. And those separate beds? They push ’em together when the cameras are off.

The creators of “Sesame Street” have denied rumors that ‘Bert’ and ‘Ernie’ were living together in sin for decades; however, the minds behind the show are setting the record straight – no pun intended.

Mark Saltzman, a writer on the show from 1984 to 1998, spoke to Queerty in an interview where he revealed that he always thought of the characters as a “loving couple.”

“I always felt that without a huge agenda, when I was writing Bert & Ernie, they were,” he revealed noting that he drew inspiration from his relationship to film editor Arnold Glassman. “I didn’t have any other way to contextualize them. The other thing was, more than one person referred to Arnie & I as ‘Bert & Ernie.’”

There it is! Conclusive proof.

Personally, we always thought ‘Big Bird’ was the gayest of the bunch.

WIBC hosts Hammer and Nigel weighed in on the headline-making news during Tuesday’s show:

Hammer:

“Now, Sesame Street – the company – is trying to deny it still. But look, not that we needed this writer to tell us Bert and Ernie were homosexual; I think it was already assumed. It’s like when Barry Manilow came out of the closet and said ‘I’m gay’ and everyone’s response was ‘I thought he already announced it.’”
