New Billboards Demand End to ICE Cooperation

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The debate over local law enforcement’s role in federal immigration enforcement is heating up in Marion County.
The Indiana chapter of LiveFree USA has put up a high-profile billboard campaign, directly calling on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to end its cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The billboards, strategically placed across the county, state the message: “Fund Our Future | Don’t Force Us Apart.” This campaign marks an escalation in efforts by activists who voice growing concerns about the financial and social impact of using local tax dollars to detain individuals for ICE.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has remained steadfast in its position. While declining to comment directly on the new billboards, the department has previously issued a statement asserting that they “will continue to follow the law,” implying a legal mandate to cooperate with federal immigration officers.
This stance is being challenged by activists who point out that many other sheriffs across Indiana do not engage in the same level of cooperation with ICE, suggesting the Marion County Sheriff has a choice in how broadly he interprets his obligations.
As the billboards gain public attention, the discussion around immigration enforcement, community safety, and local autonomy in Marion County is set to intensify.
