CARMEL, Ind.–Carmel, Indiana has been ranked the best small city in America by the personal finance website Wallethub.

WalletHub compared more than 1,300 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 across 45 key indicators of livability. They range from housing costs and school-system quality to the number of restaurants per capita and the crime rate.

“Carmel has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, at 3%. It also has the 33rd-lowest cost of rent as a share of median household income, at around 14%. On top of that, the median annual household income is nearly $133,000, 110th-highest out of the more than 1,300 cities in our study,” said Wallethub researchers.

They also argued that Carmel is a good place for both the health and safety of its residents.

“It has the fourth-lowest share of adults in fair or poor health, along with the 23rd-lowest premature death rate in the country. When it comes to safety, it has the fourth-lowest pedestrian fatality rate and the 75th-lowest violent crime rate,” said the study.

Isla Vista, California was considered the worst small city in America by Wallethub.
