WASHINGTON–The head of the White House Office of Science and Technology has resigned over accusations he bullied some members of his staff and treated them with disrespect. Dr. Eric Lander turned in his resignation Monday, announced White House spokesperson Jen Psaki.

“I am devastated that I caused hurt to past and present colleagues by the way in which I have spoken to them,” said Lander. “I believe it is not possible to continue effectively in my role, and the work of this office is far too important to be hindered.”

Biden did not ask for Lander’s resignation, though he promised last year that anyone who treated another with disrespect in his administration would be shown the door.

An internal review that was prompted by complaints about Lander’s behavior, showed that Lander bullied and disrespected subordinates.

Biden did not ask for the resignation, but the White House did rebuke Lander. He resigned later.
