SULLIVAN, Ind. — The Sullivan County coroner was found dead Monday.

Investigators say it appears Coroner Tracy Tackett shot himself as his body was found in the driver’s seat of a car parked in a rural area of Sullivan County. They say the investigation is connected to a complaint regarding a YouTube video involving Tackett.

“It was unclear on Saturday whether Tackett intended to leave town, or if he intended to cause himself harm,” said Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom. “Tackett had been the subject of an Indiana State Police investigation that began last Thursday, however, there were no active arrest warrants for Tackett when he left.”

Police say they received a call around 9:30 a.m. Saturday that Tackett suddenly left an apartment with his girlfriend. Sullivan County deputies and Indiana conservation officers searched for Tackett throughout the weekend and into Monday.

“Investigators contacted Tackett’s local and out-of-town family and friends, to see if he had reached out to anyone,” Cottom added. (We) attempted to locate Tackett’s vehicle through GPS technology, to no avail.”

They later found Tackett in his Dodge pick-up. An autopsy confirmed that he died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
