Indiana Heat to Continue Through Next Week

INDIANAPOLIS — A stretch of hot and humid weather will continue across Indiana into next week, with only occasional chances for rain and little relief from the high heat index values.
A weak front stretched across the Midwest is sparking scattered showers and storms this morning in northern Indiana, but most of central and southern Indiana will stay dry through much of the day. A few isolated storms may develop in the afternoon, but coverage will be limited.
Temperatures Friday will climb into the low 90s, with heat index values reaching near 100 in northern Indiana and as high as 105 in the southern part of the state.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for several counties across central and southern Indiana.
The weekend will bring more of the same. Highs Saturday and Sunday will range from the upper 80s to low 90s. Afternoon storms are possible both days, particularly Saturday, but rain will be scattered and not widespread.
Most of the day will remain dry, though some brief heavy downpours and lightning are possible where storms develop.
The heat is expected to peak early next week. Monday and Tuesday could bring the hottest conditions so far this season, with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values nearing 110.
Like the weekend, both days could feature isolated afternoon storms, but most areas will stay dry.
