10-Month-Old Dies in LaPorte County Crash, Car Fire
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office says that an infant died in a fatal crash in Coolspring Township Friday afternoon.
The crash happened at 1:09 p.m. in the 11500 west block of County Road 400 North, near the intersection at Hitchcock Road. Deputies were told that there was a vehicle engulfed in flames and a child was inside.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office says “deputies were unable to safely approach the vehicle due to the intense flames.” While firefighters were able to extinguish the flames “several minutes later,” a 10-month-old infant died in the fire.
No other injuries were reported by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the crash and the identities of everyone involved are being withheld during the investigation.
