The name is Lovelady, Dicky Lovelady.

No, this isn’t a forgotten Austin Powers character, he’s the New York Mets’ newest pitcher, Richard Lovelady.

Ever since the Mets signed Richard Lovelady earlier this week, fans have been lovingly obsessing over the player’s name. The 29 year-old says he actually prefers going by his nickname, “Dicky,” making his name even more endearing.

Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo confirmed on X, Lovelady said “On a baseball card, I go by Richard Lovelady. On the scoreboard, Richard Lovelady,” but if fans “run into him on the street or at the ballpark he prefers his nickname.”
