At Least Two Families without Home after Neighborhood Fire

INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters say two families are for sure without a home after a fire blew through their neighborhood early Friday. Firefighters were called to the 9000 block of Venona Way.
The fire had a head start on the firefighters.
“Before we got there, there were multiple calls, saying they had fire through the roof. The first arriving engine discovered fire through the roof, and there was a second house that’s roof section was starting to catch fire as well,” Wayne Township Fire Captain Eric Banister says.
“When we got there, we had fire in the next house already. We were fighting one and a half fires, and there ended up being two houses on fire,” Banister says.
Banister says people were able to escape.
“There was one civilian who was injured, and they were transported to a hospital for evaluations. There was a firefighter, who was also hurt. They were treated for their injuries at the scene, and they were released,” Banister says.
Banister says fires like these do not happen often because they burn two homes at once.
Firefighters are looking into this.
