Don’t threaten President Trump with a good time.

A few months ago, President Trump called out Governor Janet Mills of Maine for refusing to comply with the amendment of Title IX. The law states that biological men are not allowed to compete in women’s sports. While Gov. Mills begrudgingly stated she would follow federal law, she would also see him “in court.”

Today the Department of Justice has filed a civil lawsuit against the state of Maine for… you guessed it, ignoring federal law. Attorney General Pam Bondi says they are suing Maine’s Department of Education for specifically “discriminating against women by failing to protect women in women’s sports,” which is a direct violation of Title IX.

Bondi says that the lawsuit is about more than just sports. “The Department of Justice will not sit by when women are discriminated against in sports… this is also about these young women’s personal safety.”

Education Sec. Linda McMahon gave a warning to the governor. “I hope Gov. Mills will recognize that her political feud with the president will deprive the students in her state of much more than the right to fair sporting events.”

The Trump Administration has already cut funds for Maine’s state school administrative and technology funds. The US Department of Agriculture paused funding to the state last week until a Federal Judge ruled to lift the freeze.

Gov. Mills gave quite the warning after the lawsuite was filed. “Let today serve as warning to all states: Maine might be among the first to draw the ire of the Federal government in this way, but we will not be the last.”

Well, it looks like the governor is going to get her wish after all…
