GREENSBURG, Ind.-The Trump tariffs on Mexico may have indirect consequences, putting more Hoosiers to work and improving Indiana’s economy.

Reuters news agency reports that the Honda Civic, the second best-selling car in Honda’s lineup, may be manufactured in Indiana.

While the tariffs are expected to go into effect Tuesday after a one-month pause, the plan to begin making Civics in Indiana, according to Reuters, puts the start date in May 2028.

Honda originally planned to make them in Mexico, beginning in November 2027.

Honda has not yet commented on the report.

As reported, the plan is to produce about 210,000 Civics per year. However, it has not been confirmed if they would be produced at Honda’s only plant in the state, the Greensburg plant in Decatur County.
