TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — President Biden is commuting the death sentences of 37 people, leaving only three federal prisoners on death row in America.

Biden announced this morning that he condemns the murders committed but can’t in good conscience advocate for the death penalty at the federal level. Biden’s administration has imposed a moratorium on executions and the President says he can’t let a new administration resume the executions that he halted.

The three remaining death row inmates are Robert Bowers, who killed eleven people in the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh in 2018, Dylann Roof, who killed nine at a historically Black church in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015 and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the 2013 Boston marathon bombers.
