New Castle Mom Charged in Death of Three-Month-Old Daughter
NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A mother from New Castle faces charges in the death of her three-month-old daughter.
Cheyenne Sexton, the mother of Lyra Orr, was charged Thursday with aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Court papers say Sexton noticed nothing unusual at her home on the night of Sept. 3 and 4, reports The Star Press.
The next morning, Sexton said, she tried to wake up her baby and discovered she was not breathing. Orr was later pronounced dead.
According to The Star Press, authorities didn’t know about Orr’s head injuries until an autopsy was performed at Henry County Hospital. A doctor there found two skull fractures and a brain bleed, court documents said.
During a police interview conducted after Orr’s autopsy, Sexton told investigators she had “no idea” what happened.
In a later interview, Sexton was asked for a possible explanation of her baby’s head injuries and said she could provide none, according to The Star Press.
Sexton was arrested Tuesday. She remained in the Henry County Jail on Thursday.
A court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
