BEECH GROVE, Ind. — One person is in critical condition after a Friday morning house fire in Beech Grove.

According to the Beech Grove Police Department, crews were called to a home on South 4th Street just before 6:30 a.m., for a house fire with possible entrapment.

Police say a man was out walking his dog when his wife alerted him about a fire inside their house. The man and some neighbors tried to rescue her but were unable to reach her.

Eventually, firefighters arrived and were able to get her out of the house.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The man was also taken to the hospital for burns to his face and arms. Three cats passed away in the fire.

Crews are still trying to figure out what caused the fire.
