Lafayette Woman Dies Following Crash on I-65
LOWELL, Ind. — A Lafayette woman died following a crash on I-65 in northwestern Indiana.
Indiana State Police said 19-year-old Emma Conner died of injuries she received in a crash Tuesday afternoon.
State troopers were at the scene of a car fire on SB I-65 at around 4:15 p.m. when they got a call about a three-car accident nearby.
Troopers determined that traffic had been slowing to a stop when a green Jeep Wrangler rear-ended Conner’s car at a high rate of speed. The impact pushed Conner’s car into a truck and part of the Jeep ended up on top of her vehicle, trapping her inside.
Conner was conscious when she was freed from her car but was seriously injured.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died. The coroner determined her cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Police are still investigating but do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
