FORT BRANCH, Ind. — A train caught fire near a railroad crossing in Fort Branch Sunday evening.

CSX says the train was hauling rail ties and that smoke was first reported coming from one of the train cars as the train was passing through Evansville and heading north into Gibson County.

A full-on fire had started by the time it finally came to a stop 20 miles north of Evansville in Fort Branch.

It was met by Fort Branch firefighters who were able to quickly put the flames out. The Haubstadt Fire Territory said that the fire also caused several brushfires along the rail line.

Those were also extinguished quickly.

No one was hurt, but CSX says they have stopped all rail traffic on that particular line for the time being while they investigate how the fire started.
