Indianapolis, IN – One hundred and fifty middle-school girls from across the country are in Indianapolis this week for a two-day summer basketball clinic designed to build confidence and foster leadership skills.

The event, part of the “I’m GREAT” (Girls Respecting Each Other And Themselves) program, is hosted by the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF) and Group 1001, with support from the Women’s Sports Foundation.

The clinic, taking place at The Jungle (IU Indianapolis), aims to equip girls aged 11-14 with tools to make positive decisions, break down social barriers, and develop into healthy, empowered young women through a combination of sports, mentorship, and leadership activities.

The “I’m GREAT” initiative is a national program by the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation that provides youth development mentoring and resources to at-risk youth, specifically focusing on empowering young girls through sport-themed activities led by female mentors. Research highlights the positive impact of leadership programs and sports participation on girls’ mental health, self-esteem, and confidence.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation works to strengthen under-served communities by supporting children, building youth development parks and STEM centers, and partnering with law enforcement and youth-service agencies.

Group 1001 is a collective focused on empowering companies and individuals through various financial and strategic initiatives, including partnerships in education and sports.

The Women’s Sports Foundation, founded by Billie Jean King, advocates for girls and women in sports, working to ensure equitable access and opportunities.
