STATEWIDE–Scattered thunderstorms will stick around in Indiana through the weekend while temperatures are also expected to drop soon.

“We think much of the state will be affected on Saturday. The entire state also has at least low to moderate chances of severe weather on Sunday,” said Greg Melo, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Melo says severe weather chances are low, but they can’t rule out an isolated strong wind gust. Flooding could be an issue in low lying areas.

“We think these storms are going to be moving and not just sitting around. When they move slowly, that’s when we start to get worried about flooding, but they’ll be moving fast enough that I don’t think it’s a major concern at this point, but that could always change,” said Melo.

Melo says relief from the heat could arrive by the end of next week.

“We’re watching that. Confidence is still a bit low as to what we’ll get, but we’ll be watching and keeping an eye on that for sure because I know we’re all tired of the heat,” said Melo.
