14-Year-Old’s Body Recovered from Lake Kesslerwood

INDIANAPOLIS — Crews have recovered the body of a 14-year-old boy who went missing in Lake Kesslerwood Sunday evening.
Officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources confirmed the teen was found around 10:20 a.m. Monday using sonar and a remote-operated vehicle.
The boy had jumped off a pontoon boat to swim with friends near the 5800 block of Fall Creek Parkway North just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to conservation officer David Moss. His friends realized he hadn’t resurfaced and tried to help, but couldn’t find him.
Rescue crews launched boats within minutes and had divers in the water by 6:51. Not long after, they began scanning the lake using sonar. Dive teams from both Indianapolis and Fishers responded, but lightning in the area forced them to pause the search.
What started as a rescue operation turned into a recovery mission overnight, and by Monday morning, the teen’s body was located and brought to shore.
