Fatal Shooting Near Thatcher Park

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting that killed a woman and injured a man Saturday evening.
The shooting happened sometime between 7 and 8 p.m. on West Vermont Street, near Thatcher Park, on the west side of Indianapolis. Officers say a family gathering was taking place when shots were fired at a man and woman. Authorities have not figured out the relationship between the two victims.
The woman died at the scene, while the man was taken to a hospital where he is stable.
Officers say Thatcher Park should be an environment for people to enjoy summer, not firing their weapons.
Police say they even saw small children outside, which is also hard to deal with. They say they are tired of seeing people dying from gun violence, saying this behavior is ridiculous.
In 2023, research studies said more people died from gun violence than car accidents.
No suspects have been identified, but if you have any information about the shooting, IMPD urges you to give them a call at 317-327-3475.
