EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A registered sex offender was captured in Evansville Thursday after a he and a missing girl were found inside a hotel room.

Deputies with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrived at The One Life Hotel along U.S. 41 at around 5 a.m. The motor inn is located west of the Fendrich Golf Course. They believed the girl, who was first reported missing on Saturday, was at the hotel.

After attempting to make contact with the occupants in one of the rooms, a girl matching the description of the missing girl opened the door briefly before closing it. Then, deputies say Christopher B. Gamble, 26, of Evansville, opened the door. Deputies then searched the room and found the girl hidden in the ceiling. Both were taken into custody.

Authorities say the man had multiple active felony warrants that included charges related to child molestation. The sheriff’s office confirmed through their investigation that Gamble is currently classified as an Offender Against Children and is required to register annually for life.

Online records from the Indiana Department of Correction show that a new arrest warrant was issued for Gamble on June 18 from Spencer Circuit Court, where he had pleaded guilty and was convicted in April 2016 to two felony charges of child molesting. Gamble was released from prison on Dec. 24, 2024.

Gamble faces preliminary charges of assisting a criminal, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, parole violation, and failure to register as a sex offender or violent offender. He was placed in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

The Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final decision on charges.
