Recovery, Resilience, and the Indiana Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS– As Indianapolis gears up to cheer on our Pacers in Game 6, Turning Point Recovery Center is sharing their team spirit in a unique way! A vibrant Pacers mural now graces their wall, created by a talented former client, Derrick Wilson.
Derrick’s artistic journey began behind bars, where he started painting on small 4×4 squares. As his skills blossomed, so did the scale of his work. When Derrick arrived at Turning Point Recovery Center, he brought with him a binder full of drawings he had created during his time incarcerated.
Turning Point Recovery Center, a residential program in Indianapolis through Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana, is dedicated to helping men battling substance use disorder who have been involved in the criminal justice system. The program offers a crucial alternative to incarceration, focusing on treatment and recovery. The team at Turning Point not only supported Derrick in his recovery journey but also provided him with the supplies and space he needed to cultivate his artistic talents. This encouragement made a real difference.
Before graduating from the program, Derrick created the impressive Pacers mural, leaving a lasting symbol of his journey and the center’s commitment to holistic recovery. This mural stands as a testament to the power of artistic expression in healing and the unwavering support offered by organizations like Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana.
