INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead after a shooting Monday evening on the north side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to an apartment in the 4700 block of Round Lake Drive just after 6 p.m. and found a man with apparent gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 23-year-old Rodney L. Beeler III.

Police said one man was detained and is cooperating with investigators, though it remains unclear if he was involved in the shooting. Officers believe the incident was isolated.

Authorities have not said how many shots were fired.

“This is where kids play and neighbors go to work — it’s not where you expect something like this,” said IMPD Officer Drew Brown.
