Howard County Sheriff’s Office

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind.–Three people were arrested this week in Howard County. Drugs and guns were also seized.

In a news release sent out on Thursday, the Howard County Sheriff’s Office said a traffic stop was initiated Tuesday night in Kokomo because police say they saw a Chrysler 300 operating with a headlight that wasn’t working. Two people were inside the Chrysler 300 identified as 58-year-old Michael Steelman (driver) and 49-year-old Joshua Smith (passenger).

Investigators say Steelman and Smith had active arrest warrants —Smith for two outstanding warrants in Howard County, and Steelman for an active warrant from Maine. The State of Maine decided not to extradite.

“During the investigation, a glass smoking device was found on Smith’s person. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a hygiene kit in the center console containing a small plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine. Neither occupant claimed ownership of the drugs. Both subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center,” said the Howard County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A concealed plastic bag containing 29.2 grams of methamphetamine was recovered from his undergarments, police say. Further
investigation revealed a connection between Smith and a current inmate facing methamphetamine dealing charges.

Officers got a warrant to search a home on Armstrong Street in Kokomo. They say once they searched the home early Wednesday morning, they found the following:

-173 grams of methamphetamine
-10.8 grams of fentanyl
-58.1 grams of marijuana
-46 dosage units of LSD
-Multiple loaded firearms, including handguns and a rifle
-Numerous glass smoking devices and assorted ammunition

53-year-old Michelle Steelman was found inside the home and arrested.

All three people are now facing several felony and misdemeanor charges.
