IMPD Chief Discusses Crimes Being Committed by Kids

INDIANAPOLIS –Violent crimes committed by kids is something that has the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Chris Bailey very concerned.

He discussed those concerns Monday in an interview with 93 WIBC’s Hammer and Nigel.

“We have a whole generation of kids that just don’t have any supervision and they lack respect for traditional institutions whether its parents, grandparents, elders in the neighborhood, churches or police officers; there’s a lack of guidance”, said Bailey.

He says many of the youth the police interact with would rather get caught with a gun instead of not carrying one to protect themselves.

“We can’t just lock the youth up, we will end up creating future criminals in the way we communicate with the youth,” said Bailey.

His agency is currently researching programs in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club to provide assistance to families in these situations.
