SOUTHPORT, Ind.–A 12-year-old girl in Marion County is facing felony charges. She’s accused of cutting a classmate with a razor blade at Southport’s Sixth Grade Academy.

The incident occurred when police say the girl cut a boy on his wrist and forearm last week, resulting in a gash that required stitches.

While the girl’s mother claimed she intended to cut a child’s dreadlocks, the school district stated that while the intent of the student who brought the razor blade is unclear, the school emphasized that actions have consequences, especially when safety is compromised.

The girl has been criminally charged with Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony) and Possession of a Knife on School Property Resulting in Bodily Injury (Level 6 Felony).

Tips regarding safety concerns can be reported to the school’s See Something Say Something tipline at 317-789-3905 or through their website, PerryTownshipSchools.org.
