IPS on Asynchronous Day Monday, School Year to Be Extended By One Day
INDIANAPOLIS–Indianapolis Public Schools will be on an asynchronous day Monday April 14. That means there will be no in-person learning that day.
IPS Spokesman Marc Ransford said this is because of the anticipated high number of teacher absences to attend the Day of Action at the Indiana Statehouse.
“We support the advocacy of our staff members, along with the advocacy demonstrated by so many of our families. Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to identify enough staff coverage to feel confident in our ability to safely operate schools on Monday, April 14, while staff members are out. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause families as this is not a decision that is made lightly,” said Ransford.
Because IPS has already used all of the allowed asynchronous days for the year, they will add an extra in-person day to the current school year to ensure their students receive a full 180 days of in-person instruction — which is mandated by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
This means that the new last day of school for students will be Friday, May 23, and the last day of school for staff will be Tuesday, May 27.
“Student work will be due next Monday, April 21. Please look for communication from your school regarding your student’s work,” said Ransford.
