Severe Storms Sweep Through Indiana, Leaving Damage in Their Wake
On the night of April 2, 2025, severe storms wreaked havoc across central Indiana, bringing powerful winds, reported tornadoes, and significant damage to several communities.
Among the hardest-hit areas were Carmel, Brownsburg, and other parts of Hamilton and Hendricks counties.
Residents in Carmel faced high winds and a confirmed tornado that touched down around 9:30 PM.
Local authorities noted tree and roof damage, while the Carmel Old Town Antique Mall sustained substantial structural destruction.
Eyewitness videos captured the dramatic funnel cloud as it left a path of chaos.
Fortunately, no injuries in the Carmel area were reported, but cleanup efforts are ongoing.
Brownsburg also bore the brunt of the storm.
A tornado caused a partial collapse of the Sur La Table warehouse, trapping one person inside for over 40 minutes before being rescued.

Tragically, nearby, a man lost his life in a storm-related incident involving downed power lines.
The town remained under an orange travel advisory due to debris-littered roads.
The storm’s winds were fierce across the region, with gusts reaching 100 mph in Eaton (Delaware County) and 81 mph in Danville.
The destruction included downed trees, power lines, and widespread flooding, which left many roads impassable.
Power outages hit more than 94,000 homes across central Indiana at the peak of the storm.
Utility companies worked tirelessly, restoring services to thousands overnight, though many neighborhoods still faced blackouts by morning.
Governor Mike Braun issued a statement praising public safety workers and pledging assistance to affected communities.
The National Weather Service began assessing damage across the storm’s path to determine whether multiple tornadoes touched down or a single tornado caused the devastation.
Brownsburg, Carmel, and Vigo County were prioritized in the initial assessments.
The storms underscored the unpredictability and power of severe weather, leaving Indiana communities mobilizing to rebuild and recover from its aftermath.

Kroger locked us out of the store, so we rode it out in the car (which I parked right next to their doors).
