Banks Blames ‘Left-Wing Activists’ After ‘Clown’ Remark Video

INDIANAPOLIS — U.S. Senator Jim Banks says a man chased him around the U.S. Capitol for days before filming an interaction where Banks called him a clown. The man, Mack Schroeder, was on probation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He was let go after the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) implemented cuts affecting more than 30,000 federal workers.
In an interview with WIBC News, Banks said, “I have no patience for left-wing activists who chase congressmen and senators trying to complain about it.” He added that Hoosier firefighters, police officers, teachers, and factory workers are the ones who deserve his attention. Banks described his encounter with Schroeder as “quick.”
“There was a group of these activists in the hallway chasing me and others down,” he said. “Sometimes the truth hurts, but the guy acted like a clown and probably didn’t deserve the government job he had. He feels entitled to it and believes taxpayers should continue to fund his job.”
Banks explained that Schroeder’s role focused on racial and gender equity and housing. He also expressed appreciation for President Trump, DOGE, and Elon Musk, crediting them for the cuts they’ve made, which they believe will lead to a government that works harder and more efficiently for you.
Schroeder, who has since deactivated his LinkedIn account, describes his work as a social work professional focused on social work and housing justice. He said his time at HHS was “four of the most positive, enriching, and encouraging months of my professional career.”
“We have a $37 trillion national debt because taxpayer dollars are being wasted on jobs like the one this guy had,” Banks added. “You could cut Washington D.C. in half, and people in Indiana would never miss it.”
