INDIANAPOLIS — Prosecutors said on Tuesday a man was convicted for shooting seven people and killing six of them. This happened inside a house, which is near East 34th Street and North Sherman Drive, on Indianapolis’ east side in 2021, which was when the man was 17 years old at the time.
Four of the people that Raymond Childs III killed were family members of his:
- Raymond Childs Jr., his father
- Kizzie Childs, his mother
- Rita, his 13-year-old sister
- Elijah, his 18-year-old brother
Childs also shot and killed his brother’s girlfriend, Kiara Hawkins, as well as her unborn baby.
Childs also shot his 15-year-old brother, who was the only one that survived.
This all happened after Childs got into an argument with his parents after he got in trouble for staying out past curfew. That’s when he turned the gun on his family, along with his brother’s pregnant girlfriend.
In October, Childs was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and owning a gun without having a license. However, it has not been determined how that charge affected his sentencing.
Childs now serves 360 years in prison.
