COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A juvenile was taken into custody Tuesday following an investigation into an alleged threat involving a local school, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the threat earlier that day, and authorities acted swiftly to ensure the safety of the community, according to Sgt. Dane Duke.

Duke did not describe the nature of the threat or say which school it involved.

The juvenile was transported to the Bartholomew County Youth Services Center. No additional threats to the community have been identified at this time.

The sheriff’s office has been working closely with the Bartholomew County School Corporation throughout the investigation.

Sheriff Chris Lane emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “The safety of our youth and schools are taken very seriously. Cases like this will be thoroughly investigated to ensure the safety of our schools.”

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
