Court Docs Reveal More About Former Morgan County Couple

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. — You may remember when a man and woman from Morgan County were collectively charged with more than 100 counts of child molestation and more last month. Now, court documents detail what they are accused of doing.
Brian and Sonja Stafford were charged with more than 120 total counts in late December, but specific information about what led to their arrests was not provided.
Documents released Wednesday indicate that multiple kids were abused while in the care of the Staffords. At least 11 victims have been identified, though the two ultimately cared for more than 30 children.
Police say Brian sexually abused kids as young as 7 years old for years, while Sonja physically abused them. Brian may have even gotten one girl pregnant.
The two likely spanked and strangled the children, deprived them of food, required them to do farm labor and write Bible verses, refused to celebrate their birthdays or holidays, and prevented them from contacting the authorities, among other punishments.
The Staffords later divorced.
