NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana is being hit by a massive snowstorm.
It’s not something that typically happens in southern cities like New Orleans, so much so that they do not have many snow plows at the ready to clear snow. As much as five inches of snow has fallen on New Orleans, which is more than the city has seen in several decades.
Seeing the city’s struggles, a company from Indiana is coming to the rescue.
Sherco Group, which is based in Sheridan, is sending a fleet of snow plows to New Orleans to help the city clear its streets. Sherco says they already had plows working in Mississippi when the deal unexpectedly materialized Tuesday morning.
The Director of Homeland Security for New Orleans says the city is paying Sherco handsomely for their help. Director Collin Arnold says they are paying Sherco around $168,000 for 24 hours of snow-clearing efforts, and that the deal could be extended another 24 hours, which would result in a $330,000 payday.
The city is also paying to feed and house Sherco’s workers while they are there.
