KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a late-night crash involving a Kokomo police officer Wednesday.

The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the city’s east side, near the intersection of State Road 931 and East Vaile Avenue.

Indiana State Police said a preliminary investigation shows an on-duty Kokomo police officer was driving a marked patrol car north on State Road 931 when the collision occurred.

A Kokomo man driving a Ford sedan pulled out in front of the officer, who could not avoid the crash. The officer struck the passenger side of the Ford.

The passenger in the Ford, identified as Vicky L. Hollingsworth, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Howard County Coroner’s Office.

The driver, Timmothy A. Bergesen, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers said there was probable cause to believe he was under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to a local hospital for a certified test and later transported to an Indianapolis hospital.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being released.
