Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, has arrived in Greenland for a private visit. This visit comes just a couple weeks after his father expressed interest in buying the Danish territory for the sake of U.S. national security.

According to Denmark’s state broadcaster, Trump Jr.’s aircraft touched down in Nuuk, the capital of the expansive, icy region, which is home to approximately 57,000 people.

Trump Jr. said during his show Monday evening on the Rumble platform that he would be taking a “very long personal day trip” to Greenland with Charlie Kirk, a prominent pro-Trump activist. Trump Jr. said he is visiting “as a tourist” and would not meet with any government officials.

Trump Jr. is not expected to have a formal role in the next Trump administration, though he remains a key informal adviser and political surrogate for his father.

The head of Greenland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Mininnguaq Kleist, said in a statement Monday that “Greenland is an open country, and welcomes visitors,” after the government was informed of Trump Jr.’s plans.

The nature of his visit is private, Kleist added, and no meetings with government officials are planned.

In a Truth Social post, President-elect Trump said that he was “hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA’.” The Republican attached a video that purportedly shows a Greenlander asking the U.S. to buy his country.

“If you could tell Trump anything, what would it be?” a woman is heard asking the man in the video.

“Buy us. Buy Greenland,” the man, who was wearing a MAGA hat, replied.
