It is finally, finally happening. You’ve got Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota putting forth legislation that would eliminate the Department of Education.

Let’s start this great debate. And I say start this great debate because I have absolutely no faith whatsoever. That this is going to happen quickly. There’s going to be a real conversation about what does this mean? Let’s make sure that in the conversation of the Department of Education, we have ourselves all on the same basics. In the United States, education existed without a Department of Education from our founding until May of 1980.

What we are arguing is government dictating education. The movement away from the state, away from the municipality, away from the local, to a bureaucratic government to which essentially all governments are. Is to remove education, as you have discussed, maybe in different ways, but certainly you have thought it is to remove education from the local. It is to remove the local from education, and education is no longer the purview of the society. It is a it is solely the purview and done at the discretion of and the desires of the bureaucracy, and society is simply left to deal with the result. Now the people who believe in big government and despise society writ large are totally down with this and believe in this so much so that they are full buyers into the spin-off, The lifeblood of this. Bureaucracy, which is the education unions and the idea of the degree. I have no opposition to a degree in education. I have huge opposition to the idea that someone who has a degree in education is trained and knows better than the parent. This is nutty.
