FORT WAYNE, IND — Mayor Sharon Tucker called for community action to address violence following two recent shooting deaths.

The Allen County Coroner identified the victims as 16-year-old Ah Mee Kun, who was killed in an officer-involved shooting Sunday, and 18-year-old Corbin Scott Cornett, who died in a Saturday shooting.

“As a community, it’s our job to make sure that we’re doing all we can to keep the City of Fort Wayne safe, but public safety is just that — it takes the public to be a part of the solution,” Tucker said. “So, if you see something, would you please say something? Would you talk to your young people and those you are around to make sure that you’re having conversations and dialogues?”

Tucker said she didn’t know how kids were getting guns, but she’s frustrated by how many kids have access to them

“I don’t even want to start to wonder how they get possession. But, what I do know is that it’s making it challenging for our community, and this is not who Fort Wayne is, and it’s absolutely not the path that we want to go down,” she added.

The city has had nearly 40 homicides this year.
