GREENWOOD, Ind.—A 13-year-old boy in Greenwood was arrested for attempted murder on Sunday morning.

The Greenwood Police Department says they were called to Crescent Drive around 1 am Sunday on a report of attempted suicide. That’s not far from Greenwood Community High School.

They found one teenage boy with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Detectives say they later found out that five other kids were present at the time of the shooting along with the victim. They believe all six of them were playing with the gun when the 13-year-old shot the victim.

The other five kids ran away. Officers say their 13-year-old suspect called 911 and said it was an attempted suicide.

Police say they had reason, instead, to arrest that 13-year-old and charge him with attempted murder.

“This case is currently ongoing and fluid. Greenwood Detectives are working closely with the Johnson County Prosecutors Office who will determine if and what charges may be filed in the future,” said the Greenwood Police Department in a Sunday news release.
