Future Leaders Gather in Indy for FFA Convention

INDIANAPOLIS—The 97th Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention kicks off Thursday, drawing thousands of students from across the nation to compete in events such as public speaking, farming skills, and an agriculture quiz.

An Alabama student, Marshall Wallace, shared his experience, saying, “This is my third national convention. Last year, I competed in agricultural issues.” This year, he will participate in parliamentary procedure, where teams showcase their ability to conduct meetings according to parliamentary rules.

Leah Lockett, a parent and teacher of an FFA student, talked about the dedication required for these competitions: “A lot of people don’t understand how much time and energy goes into this. These kids practice year-round, and one of our students was a national talent participant.”

The convention offers a variety of activities, including workshops, keynote speakers, career fairs, and competitions in areas such as public speaking, agricultural mechanics, and entrepreneurship. It’s a valuable opportunity for students to develop skills and network with industry leaders.

“I think we practiced as hard as we can, and I’m expecting some top placements,” added Wallace.

The FFA Convention is in Indianapolis because it’s the organization’s national headquarters, which offers the space and resources needed for all the members and events.
