JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind.–Law enforcement agencies in Johnson County and other areas of Indiana carried out what they call a multi-day “Child Predator Sting Operation” this week.

“We started this on Tuesday and it concluded Thursday evening. We ended up arresting 22 individuals on various charges such as child solicitation, possession of narcotics, or solicitation of other things like prostitution or pornographic material,” said Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess.

Burgess says his office conducted this sting in partnership with the Franklin Police Department, Edinburgh Police Department, Greenfield Police Department, and the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office. If it wasn’t for this collaboration, he doesn’t believe it would be possible.

“We continue to act with urgency to prevent these individuals from harming children. Each arrest we make is one less predator in our community, and that’s a step toward ensuring the safety of our children.”

He says some of the people live in Johnson County while others are from outside the county.

“We have some residents showing up that are attempting to have sex with a minor. It’s very disappointing,” said Burgess.

Dating back to 2020, 127 people have been arrested in stings like this one across Johnson County.

“These operations are essential to stopping child exploitation. Our partnership with law enforcement allows us to not only arrest these individuals but also hold them accountable through the judicial process,” said Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner.
